Husbands

Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

Just kidding.  Sort of.  I mean, that's not what I really was going to blog about, but it is true, in many ways.

In the last few days a couple of you have mentioned something about your husbands that implied that they know who I am (my blogging self I mean, of course).  Is that a little crazy?  I think it's a little crazy.  But I also think it's a lot awesome.  Not that they know me, exactly (although, hello!  Awesome!) but that our husbands, many of them at least, know us!  Oh shoot, that's not what I mean either.  Of course our husband's know us!  Mine knows me, yours knows you, but I think you understand what I'm getting at here.

I love telling Greg about posts that I have enjoyed or updating him about something he already knows about someone, or telling him about comment threads or showing him funny or neat pictures or  reading him posts, that are very meaningful to me.  I used to get flustered when I started in on one of these things, "So she's the one who's aunt showed up and was a real jerk but they ended up forgiving and having a bonding moment.  Remember?  With the little baby who fell down and had to get stitches on his eyebrow?"  And he would always remember (okay, not always; sometimes he says "No, but continue." so I do.) but I got a little sick of always giving a few reminders like that.  One night I was talking about one of you (okay, fine, it was Heather of the EO because I'd been talking lots about her and Asher's issues around that time) and finally I just said, "How should I help you know who I'm talking about?"  and my dear, wise husband said, "Why don't you just call her by name!"

Genius!  So I did.  And now I always do.  And I do with many of you.  Of course I still give little prompts since he's not the best with names, even when they come with faces, and so without faces?  You can imagine.

So my point was that I love that our husbands are aware of who our blogging friends are.  And one other reason is because it makes you all seem so much less imaginary when I'm not the only one I know who "knows" you and accepts you as real entities.  Living breathing humans, and not just words and pictures on a screen.  And that's such a relief because you guys have always seemed so real to me, and keep seeming more and more real all the time.

Oh yeah. My husband definitely knows who you are. "My friend in Poland," as I refer to you! LOL I think it is fun too. He also knows you guys as the people who posted your testimonial on You Tube. High coolness factor for my husband who is all about using technology to promote church identity.

When I first started blogging my husband called all such people my imaginary friends. But, he gets it now and I can talk to him about all of you and sometimes he's even very interested in particular situations.

You are "the one in Poland" for my husband too (and my parents). I call you Lisa, but then they sometimes need clarification and the Poland thing kind of stands out.
I love how my bloggy peeps are becoming more and more real (in the friendship sense) too. I really do daydream about meeting you guys. It would be a beautiful moment for me, to see your faces in real life.

Yes, I'm a total sappy sapperton. But you knew that already. :)

I guess since I pretty much stopped blogging that makes me your imaginary friend now! :)

It makes me so happy that you've found all these English-speaking friends while in Poland.

Oh, yeah, and as for husbands, Tom usually remembers who you are when I just say "Lisa" :)

Yeah for husbands that listen!! It is so fun to met people that we never would have if it werent for blogging

I should do this, because generally I don't even try to get him to keep my bloggy friends straight. If there's something I want to tell him about, it's usually, "So one of my blog friends posted about . . ."

OH, the blogging world. How fun. I feel much the same as you do. When my husband walks by and sees me blogging, he'll ask "who are you blogging to right now". It's like inviting new members of the ward over for dinner . (or new neighbors bringing them cookies) Like the song from The King and I (I am a musical freak) "Getting to Know you, Getting to know all about you. Getting to like you, hoping that you'll like me" (ok, I'll stop singing now)

I could have written this word for word. The problem is that my hubby really needs visual cues so I think he doesn't truly remember who I'm talking about as often as he pretends to. I think I need to make him a chart with photos. Lisa from Poland is pretty clear for him, though. It really is a kind of wild and wacky thing, huh? To have so many friends he has never "met" or knows the face of . . it's esp. weird for me since my husband and I grew up in the same ward and went to high school together.

You're "Lisaway" to my hubby - and he totally knows who you are. Feel famous.

We should all take tiny thumbnail pictures of our husbands and have their little heads introduce each other.

You are "Andrea's friend Lisa who lives in Poland" to my hubby! But then sometimes I follow up with "but she totally comments on my blog so we are friends!" :)

I have to admit that my hubby doesn't get the whole blog thing. He listens but he doesn't get why I am so fascinated with the lives of strangers. Oh well, he doesn't understand the wonders of a pedicure either--but he's a keeper all the same.

My husband's heard stories about "this girl in Poland," but you've inspired me to make the transition to Lisa. :) And yes, they're great; I'm glad mine doesn't think I'm a freak when I talk about "friends" that I really don't know.

I tell Sean stories all the time but often I don't think I identify whose story it is at all. I guess I should work on that.

James had to hear about my blog friends for a long time, and now that he has one he's finally starting to 'meet' them. Well, when he's not busy with work and school.

I was just thinking yesterday how funny it seemed to me that I can say certain friend's names and he automatically knows that they're blog friends.

It makes us all seem more real somehow, doesn't it? =)

That's so funny. We have that exact same conversation around here. And part of every day is telling my husband at night what I ran across while blogging. I'll pick one to read him each night, and I've been toying with making it a feature on my sidebar. You know, "What I read to Kenny last night." Just because those are usually the best posts of the day.

I love Melanie's sidebar idea. And I totally do the same thing. Jeff's heard about Heidi's book, about "the one in Minnesota whose baby had brain surgery, about "the one in Canada", "the one in Brazil", "the writer in SoCal",and of course "the one in Poland". I really should transition to more first names.

The other fun thing is that I totally know all your husbands...not really, just kinda sorta feel like they're tangential friends too...Kenny, Ryan, Neil, Greg...it's all good.

Of course there's no need to talk about Kazzy in blog code because our husbands are already best friends!

Everyone gets code names when I discuss them with the husband. I try to keep him as confused as possible. It's really not that hard...
